"“Fedan has managed to write a novel that is mesmerizing; part love story, part historical novel, part spiritual text, "Dream Maker" is one hell of a read. It is historically accurate, without the feel of an historical novel. Instead, it reads like an adult fairy tale of sorts that never fails to charm and entrance. After reading "Dream Maker" I've been taking a look at the world around me with different eyes, a different sense of being. I for one am thankful for it. You will be too if you pick up this engrossing, magical book.” Jamieson Wolf, LINEARREFLECTIONS.COM

“A fascinating way to help people understand how karma and reincarnation fit into our daily lives.” BEYONDTHEVEIL.NET

“While history buffs will enjoy this novel –especially those interested in military and Arthurian lore- I was more intrigued by the portrayal of metaphysical disciplines such as ‘agape’...This novel is a well-written addition to the genre of mystical fiction…you’ll likely develop new ways of looking at your life, the world and other people…” JANETBOYER.COM

“Dream Maker, a pleasant surprise…weaves esoteric and spiritual concepts that I found refreshing…the intricacies of karma.  In fact, the story moves along so well, I kind of hoped it would have gone on longer.”  REVERSESPINS.COM

“An invigorating story and a gift that opens one’s mind…” MIDWEST BOOK REVIEW

 Book Description

By

 G.T. Lawrence, Ph.D.

This  novel begins with a portrayal of a modern-day, middle-aged man's life in crisis: a marriage breaking apart, a failing business, and the realization that life just doesn't make sense; but here's where the mystical journey begins as Martin is guided in his dreams to a past life in Britain, with the promise that it will transform his life. Critics have called Dream Maker  "a magical tale, a fairy tale for adults and a gift that opens one's mind." There's certainly magic and wonder in this book based on a life-changing dream and the portrayal of a mystical dimension unknown to most people. This is a story of reincarnation and karma, the meaning of life and who we really are.

Martin is literally dropped on a road in 464 AD Britain, in the midst of one of the most chaotic but also awe inspiring periods in history. This is the time after the Romans withdrew and the Saxons, Angles and Caledonians started invading and  Martin encounters the events and people that led to the making of the king Arthur myth. We know that something extraordinary happened because a small Roman colony in what is today's Devon in southwest England, was able not only to withstand the invaders, but also leave a legacy that spawned the age of chivalry, and kindled the imagination of generations to come. The novel portrays a mystical practice that awakens our powerful true selves, and makes anything possible. The basis is meditation, finding the God within us all; the phenomena it produces  according to the novel explains the truth behind the legends of the time. For those who don't believe in our inner power to change the course of events, I believe this novel will make them reconsider. The story takes place in and around the Roman-built city of Isca, present-day Exeter, the likely seat of power in Arthurian times and it accurately portrays life in that period. The major events and places described are real.

The novel dwells in the astral dimension, and it is what makes Martin's journey possible.  For a depressed man who had trouble with his life, his new state as an astral being is a welcome respite and at first he enjoys his detached role as a witness, but he gradually becomes involved as the people he meets impact him. Some of the characters seem to be pulled from history, others from known legends. Among them is Eldyn, a slave and former gladiator who wonders whether a warrior can become a saint; Maria Lerna the powerful mystic who gradually becomes aware of the means to influence a darkening world; Joannes, the King of Isca who must find the way to fight savage invaders with a people weakened by centuries of inactivity; Cassius, the opportunistic general of Dunum who dreams of greatness and wants to defeat Joannes' army at any cost including bringing Saxons to help him; Julius, the King of Dunum, who is his own worst enemy and watches helplessly as Cassius takes over his kingdom; Marius, Maria Lerna's brother, made prisoner by Cassius, learns to sacrifice his life for his enemy; and Aramas, the loving teacher who  transcends death, space and time to help them all, including Martin.

The traumatic events that Martin witnesses  trigger an internal struggle with the notion of God and why things happen; but all the while he's coached and learns to meditate  which lead him to a radical new perspective, and he reaches a point of understanding. Only now does he learn who he was then and of the events that gave rise to his anger, depression, and separation from the divine, and he is shown how that affected  his incarnations from then on. He also grasps the nature of the relationship with the person who became his wife. At this point he is able to understand and accept what happened and realizes the depth of the lessons he came to learn.

On the surface Dream Maker is a good love story and  historical novel; as such, it's an entertaining read. As spiritual literature, it is of value for those whose lives feel empty and crave to know what else is there; a reviewer called it "a blueprint for making sense of life."  Martin deals with relationship issues, anger, depression, his role in life, the whys of creation, and ultimately, his search for his true self. The spiritual insights are very relevant to all of us.  As a spiritual manual, it shows what  meditation is all about, its practice and effect, and reintroduces Agape, a  technique  that works as a spiritual link between individuals. There is a lot of information here, a lot happening at different levels; a complex book that's easy to read.

This novel  describes the mysticism at the onset of the Dark Ages, which consisted of spiritual principles and techniques that are as universal as they are ancient -the Greeks of the classical period talked about them- and are found today in the Cabala (Judaism), Mystical Christianity, Sufism (Islam), Hinduism, Buddhism and Taoism. Jesus' (Yesu) teachings are looked at from the context of the times, presumably before Constantine's edicts had their full effect in such remote areas as Britannia.
